Ushuaia is the end of the world. And for anyone who loves snow, it is also the start of something big: the southernmost ski season on the planet.
But there is a catch that almost nobody sees when they start planning the trip. You can’t sleep at Cerro Castor. The southernmost ski resort in the world, with 35 runs, 13 lifts and a season that runs from June to October, sits 26 kilometres from the city, and its base has a single lodging option. Everything else is in Ushuaia proper.
That changes the rules of the game. Choosing a hotel to ski here isn’t about counting stars and calling it a day. It’s about solving how you get up to the slopes every morning, what you do with your wet gear when you come back, and where you are when the afternoon falls and the other Ushuaia begins: the one of king crab, craft breweries and Beagle Channel cruises. A stunning five-star on a mountainside can work against you if it forces you to sort out the transfer on your own every single day.
And there is no shortage of options. More than three hundred places to stay: luxury resorts on the outskirts, boutiques right downtown, serviced apartments, mountain cabins. Each one built for a different kind of trip. Figuring out which one truly works for skiing, and not just for resting with a nice view, is not a job for one afternoon on Google, especially when every website calls itself the best.
That’s why we built this ranking differently. No loose opinions, no paid-for spots: hard, verifiable data, processed with scripts. We measure real reputation across booking platforms, concrete ski suitability (packages, transfers, winter services), location relative to downtown and the port, and each property’s category. Then a scoring engine sorts them out without anyone’s taste getting in the way.

The best hotels in Ushuaia for skiing at Cerro Castor. We profile the Top 10; positions 11 to 20 complete the analysed field. Google ratings come from each hotel’s listing (collected for all 20); Booking and TripAdvisor are filled in where the hotel has reviews. Castor Ski Lodge, given its cabin scale, does not have a listing distinct from the ski resort’s reviews.
How we scored each hotel: our analysis
To offer verifiable results we didn’t trust first impressions: we went to the data. We score each property out of 100 points, split into four blocks, and each block into concrete subfactors. We do not use price or search-engine ranking criteria: price changes with dates and occupancy and doesn’t measure quality, so it stays out of the score.
- Guest reputation (35 points): the real rating on booking platforms, weighted by review volume. We cross Booking, Google Business Profile and TripAdvisor, and give more weight to those with many genuine reviews: a 9.0 with 700 reviews beats a 9.7 with 200. It splits into OTA rating (20), Google Business Profile (10) and review recency (5).
- Ski suitability (30 points): how well the property solves the point of the trip. It weighs the package or logistics to Cerro Castor (daily transfers, lift passes, gear rental) with 15 points, winter amenities (ski storage with a dryer, heating, early breakfast, gear space) with 10, and support services (lessons, flexibility for weather closures) with 5.
- Location and accessibility (20 points): how well placed you are for everything that isn’t skiing. Walking distance to downtown and the port (10), general accessibility and airport transfer (5) and the OTA location score (5).
- Category and quality (15 points): the objective level of the product. Category and property type (5), visual experience quality (5) and awards or certifications such as Travellers’ Choice or Booking Review Award (5).

Top 10 best hotels in Ushuaia for skiing
1. Original House
First place goes to Original House, a boutique hotel right in downtown Ushuaia, on Yaganes street, a few metres from San Martín avenue and steps from the port. Its reputation is among the most consistent in the city: 9.0 on Booking over more than 760 reviews, 4.5 on Google and 4.0 on TripAdvisor, with equally high ratings on other booking platforms.
What makes it strong for a ski trip is that it solves the logistics for you. It runs Ski Week packages of 7 nights and 6 days on the slopes, and Mini Ski Week of 4 nights, with daily door-to-door transfers to Cerro Castor, lift passes, full gear rental and ski storage with a dryer at the hotel. Breakfast comes early, even in a thermal basket before you head out to the slopes. And the product backs it up: five apartment types, in-room home automation and a panoramic terrace over the Beagle Channel.
Its strength isn’t one single figure but the sum: solid reputation, a ski package of its own that’s rare in a city hotel, and the best location in the ranking for getting around on foot when the day ends. It doesn’t have the category of a five-star out of town, but for the specific plan of skiing at Cerro Castor without giving up the city, it’s the one that fits all the pieces together best.
2. Arakur Ushuaia Resort & Spa
Second place goes to Arakur, the hotel with the best reputation on the whole list: 9.5 on Booking, 4.7 on Google over more than 4,600 reviews and another 4.7 on TripAdvisor with a Travellers’ Choice award. A stunning five-star on the slope of Cerro Alarkén, with a spa, heated pool, gym and Beagle Channel views that are half the experience.
Its offer is that of a destination resort: you arrive and don’t want to leave, with its own dining and architecture built for the landscape. In category and quality it leads comfortably, and in reputation it’s the ceiling of the ranking.
What keeps it off the podium in a ski ranking are two concrete things: it’s on the outskirts, so you depend on a car for everything, and it has no ski package of its own with transfers to Cerro Castor. It’s the best pick if you’re after luxury and relaxation over the practicality of hitting the slopes every day.
3. Las Hayas Ushuaia Resort
Third place goes to Las Hayas, another benchmark five-star, on the road to the Martial Glacier. It adds up 9.2 on Booking, 4.6 on Google and 4.6 on TripAdvisor over more than 2,000 reviews, also with Travellers’ Choice, and a spa that comes up again and again in reviews as its big draw.
It shares a profile with Arakur: sky-high reputation and category, a full resort experience and a natural setting that’s a plan in itself. It’s a great base for a trip that mixes skiing with rest.
The downside, again, is distance. Its mountain location keeps it away from downtown and the port, and it has no built-in ski logistics, so the daily transfers to Cerro Castor are on you. It works better if you’re after scenery and spa than if you want to ski every single day.
4. Los Cauquenes Resort & Spa
Fourth place goes to Los Cauquenes, a five-star facing Cauquén Bay with one of the strongest reputations in the ranking: 4.7 on Google and 4.7 on TripAdvisor over more than 2,500 reviews, with Travellers’ Choice. Its coastal location, a little away from the city, is part of its quiet-resort identity.
It gives you a complete premium stay, with a spa, dining and its own activities, and a category that goes toe to toe with Arakur and Las Hayas.
Like the other resorts, its limit for a ski trip is twofold: the out-of-the-way location, which forces you to sort out transfers, and the lack of a ski package of its own to Cerro Castor. It’s a great option for resting with a view, more than a base for the everyday skier.
5. Alto Andino Hotel
Fifth place goes to Alto Andino, the best-scoring downtown hotel in the ranking. A few metres from San Martín avenue, it mixes hotel rooms and apartments, with 9.0 on Booking, 4.6 on Google and 4.3 on TripAdvisor over more than 1,200 reviews. Its big asset is location: almost all of Ushuaia is within walking distance.
It’s a supremely convenient urban base, with good Beagle Channel and mountain views, and the perk of having an apartment when you travel with family or for several days.
It stays below the podium because it has no ski offer of its own: the logistics to Cerro Castor are up to you. If you want to be downtown and organise the transfers on your side, it’s one of the most practical options in the city.
6. Cilene del Faro Suites & Spa
Sixth place goes to Cilene del Faro, a complex of fully equipped suites and apartments between Maipú and San Martín avenues, with a spa and Beagle Channel views. It gathers 9.1 on Booking, 4.6 on Google and 4.4 on TripAdvisor over more than 1,100 reviews, with a central location that puts it among the best placed in that block.
It combines the independence of a fully equipped apartment with hotel services and a spa with a heated pool, a formula that works very well for longer stays.
Like most of the downtown options, it has no ski package or transfers of its own to the slopes. It’s a good pick if you value space and independence right downtown, and sort out the ski logistics yourself.
7. Tierra de Leyendas Boutique
Seventh place goes to Tierra de Leyendas, the best-rated hotel in the city for experience quality: 4.9 on TripAdvisor over more than 800 reviews and 4.7 on Google. An intimate boutique with a Beagle Channel view, about 300 metres from the shore, known for its dining and personal service.
Its strength is the experience: few rooms, close attention and a restaurant that ranks among the best in Ushuaia. It’s a top-tier choice for a couples’ getaway or a trip where the hotel is part of the plan.
It isn’t built for the skier: it has no slope logistics and its location, a bit away from the commercial hub, isn’t among the most practical for getting around on foot. It shines more as a boutique retreat than as a ski base.
8. Cilene del Fuego Suites & Spa
Eighth place goes to Cilene del Fuego, a suites complex with a spa that shows one of the best ratings in the set: 9.4 on Booking, 4.7 on Google and 4.7 on TripAdvisor. In an intermediate part of the city, it gives you spacious apartments with hotel services and a spa that’s perfect for après-ski.
Its balance of reputation and comfort is among the most even in the ranking, with spaces built to rest after a day of activity.
It has no built-in ski offer nor the centrality of the hotels on San Martín, and that leaves it a step below the pure downtown options. It’s a good pick if you prioritise comfort and spa over exact location.
9. Los Acebos Ushuaia Hotel
Ninth place goes to Los Acebos, a four-star on the road to the glacier, with 9.2 on Booking, 4.6 on Google and 4.5 on TripAdvisor over more than 1,000 reviews. Its elevated panoramic views over the bay are one of its signatures.
It’s a hotel with steady service, good reputation and an operation built for tourism, delivering well as comfortable, reliable lodging.
Its semi-remote location away from downtown costs it convenience points, and it has no ski package of its own. It’s a solid option if you don’t need to be downtown and value the views and the service.
10. Castor Ski Lodge
Closing the Top 10 is Castor Ski Lodge, the only lodging at the very base of Cerro Castor. It’s 15 rustic cabins of lenga wood and stone at the foot of the mountain, with a spa, restaurant, gear lockers and packages that bundle lodging, lift passes and equipment.
Its big edge is obvious: you’re literally on the slope. No daily transfers, no depending on the road’s weather, with the mountain in view from your cabin. For the purist skier, who spends the whole trip on the snow, it’s an unbeatable, one-of-a-kind option in Ushuaia.
The flip side of that edge explains its position: it’s 26 kilometres from the city, isolated from downtown, the port and urban life, and its small scale means few reviews compared with the big hotels. It’s exclusive and high-priced. It clearly wins on ski suitability, but leaves out everything else about the trip.
Which hotel to choose for your trip
The ranking makes more sense once you see there are three different ways to ski Ushuaia, and the best one depends on the trip you’re after. The first is city plus solved logistics: you sleep downtown and the hotel takes you to and from the slopes every day, the Original House model. The second is sleeping on the mountain, Castor Ski Lodge’s one-of-a-kind offer, maximum proximity to the slope in exchange for giving up the city. The third is the luxury resort, where you put the hotel above the logistics and arrange the transfers separately, as at Arakur, Las Hayas or Los Cauquenes.
There’s no single right answer. But if what you want is to ski comfortably without giving up the city experience, the data clearly leans toward the first strategy. Whether you prioritise reputation, slope logistics or location, you now have the numbers to choose with a clear head.
